Этимология: From ‘Erebor,’ the fictional Elvish-language name for the Lonely Mountain in J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit.’ Erebor became the home of the Folk of Durin, a clan of Dwarves known as the Longbeards, after they were driven from their ancestral home of Khazad-dum. In the latter days of the Third Age, this Kingdom Under the Mountain held one of the largest dwarven treasure hoards in Middle-earth. The specific name was chosen because like Tolkien’s Dwarves and extant malacanthids, this new species may well have had an inclination to excavate, as evidenced by the relatively large infilled cylindrical burrows that co-occur in at least one of the beds in which this new species is found. The treasure hoard here is represented by the rich Fossiliferous resource preserved within the Calvert Formation.
Миоцен, первая эпоха неогенового периода.
